Breastfeeding your newborn is a special and rewarding time for you and your child, but it can also come with challenges. The Birth Center at Aurora BayCare Medical Center has expert lactation consultants dedicated to helping mothers and infants achieve breastfeeding goals.

Breastfeeding support: Why choose Aurora BayCare Medical Center?

Our maternity program offers complete care for mother and baby, from prenatal services to breastfeeding support. At Aurora BayCare, you’ll find:

  • Skilled lactation consultants: Our team includes International Board Certified Lactation Consultants® (IBCLCs). These breastfeeding specialists have extensive training in lactation education and breastfeeding techniques. You receive guidance from skilled experts.
  • Coordinated care: Lactation consultants are part of our birthing team. Your consultant works closely with your OB-GYN, midwife and nurses to ensure that you and your baby get the breastfeeding support you need.
  • Specialty expertise: For some babies with special health needs, feeding can be especially difficult. Lactation consultants consult with neonatologists, respiratory therapists, developmental therapists and nutritionists to help your newborn transition from tube feeding to oral feeding.

Our services for breastfeeding and lactation support

Our breastfeeding and lactation support services include:

  • Breastfeeding classes: Aurora BayCare offers in-person and online classes to help pregnant women learn about the benefits of breastfeeding and how to prepare.
  • Breastfeeding education: We provide information about the importance of breastfeeding, including the nutritional and immunological benefits for your baby.
  • Lactation support and supplies: Lactation consultants provide breast pumps and other supplies you may need to make breastfeeding enjoyable for you and your child. We can also provide tips on weaning, returning to work and other practical aspects of breastfeeding.
  • Techniques for breastfeeding challenges: Whether you’re nursing multiples or having trouble getting your baby to latch, our lactation consultants make a breastfeeding plan tailored to your unique needs.
