Pediatric Eye Care

We focus on kids' unique eye care needs

Healthy vision is critical to a child's learning and development. Our pediatric eye doctors understand that helping kids see well is part of helping them reach their full potential.

Aurora BayCare offers pediatric eye care in partnership with BayCare Clinic Eye Specialists.

From the youngest children who can’t tell us what they see, to those getting their first pair of glasses, we focus on kids’ unique eye care needs.

We also offer a variety of children's health specialty services.

Childhood Eye Disorders

BayCare Clinic Eye Specialists’ pediatric ophthalmology team helps your child achieve the best vision possible. We offer routine eye exams and specialized care to treat a wide range of childhood eye disorders such as:

  • Amblyopia (lazy eye)
  • Eye infections
  • Pediatric cataracts
  • Pediatric glaucoma
  • Ptosis (droopy lids)
  • Strabismus (misalignment, cross-eyes)
  • Tear duct obstruction
  • Vision problems

Pediatric eye doctors provide special attention to children's vision needs, from infancy through adolescence.

Healthy Eyes for School Success

During the first few years of a child’s life, their eyes develop rapidly. Your child’s pediatrician will provide regular screenings each year. We recommend your child sees a pediatric eye doctor before starting school and every two years after that.

If your child has trouble reading or learning, bring them in for an evaluation. And call us if you see other signs of potential eye problems, such as:

  • Abnormal alignment or eye movement
  • Chronic redness or tearing
  • Constant eye rubbing
  • Headaches or eye strain
  • Poor depth perception
  • Poor visual tracking (problems following an object)
  • Problems focusing
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Squinting
  • Sitting too close to the TV
  • White pupil instead of black

Your child’s vision may change frequently. That’s why regular eye exams are crucial to classroom success. School vision screenings are important, but they’re not the same as a comprehensive, diagnostic exam and should not take the place of a complete vision test.
