Family Eye Care

Healthy vision is critical to a child's learning and development. During the first few years of a child’s life, their eyes develop rapidly. Your child’s pediatrician will provide regular screenings each year. We recommend your child sees a pediatric eye doctor before starting school and every two years after that.

If your child has trouble reading or learning, bring them in for an evaluation. And call us if you see other signs of potential eye problems, such as:

  • Abnormal alignment or eye movement
  • Chronic redness or tearing
  • Constant eye rubbing
  • Poor visual tracking (problems following an object)
  • Problems focusing
  • Sensitivity to light

Adult Eye Care

Around the age of 40, most adults will have problems seeing close up and will need to use reading glasses for near distance activities. Other common conditions at this age include dry eye and eye strain from working at a computer.

Senior Eye Care

After age 65, you need to pay more attention to your eye health. We recommend annual exams to better monitor for conditions like cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. As you get older, you are more likely to experience these eye problems:

Regular exams can help us spot eye problems early, when they are most treatable.

Six Tips to Protect Your Family’s Eyes

  1. Get regular eye exams. Schedule a comprehensive dilated eye exam every other year; or every year if you are 65 or older.
  2. Shade your eyes. Protect your eyes from sunlight by wearing sunglasses and a hat.
  3. Quit smoking. Smoking increases the risk of cataracts.
  4. Maintain your health. Manage any other health problems you have, particularly diabetes. Being overweight can contribute to diabetic eye disease and glaucoma.
  5. Eat well. A healthy diet rich in Vitamin C, fruits, and dark leafy greens can help keep your eyes healthy and slow the progression of vision problems.
  6. Practice eye safety. If your job requires protective eyewear, wear it. Use the same caution with certain sports and household chores.
