Urology And Nephrology
Surgical urologists and nephrologists (also referred to as “kidney doctors”) specialize in diagnosing urinary tract and kidney disorders
The urology and nephrology doctors at Aurora BayCare belong to an elite team of specialists. We were the first in Northeastern Wisconsin to offer the single incision mid-urethral sling, a less invasive surgical approach to treating urinary incontinence and improving bladder control. We were also the first in the region to use GreenLight laser therapy, a minimally invasive treatment for enlarged prostate that reduces the risk of incontinence.
We offer a wide variety of children's health specialty services, including children's urology and children's nephrology.
What is Urology and Nephrology?
Urology is a medical specialty that deals with urological conditions such as urinary tract infections, bladder issues, kidney stones, male infertility, and prostate cancer.
The urinary tract is comprised mainly of these organs:
- Adrenal glands
- Bladder
- Kidneys
- Male reproductive organs
- Urethra
Nephrology is a medical specialty that focuses on the kidneys. These kidney doctors help treat patients with conditions such as kidney disease, and renal failure.
At Aurora BayCare, urologist and nephrologist specialists diagnose and treat the broad spectrum of urinary tract and kidney disorders. Incontinence, kidney stones, vasectomy and vasectomy reversals, infertility, enlarged prostate, and urinary tract cancers are all common urinary health issues urologists and nephrologists deal with.

Treatments for Kidney Disease
Your kidneys remove waste and extra fluid from your blood. But when your kidneys fail, this waste and fluid can build up and cause problems. Your doctor will help you decide when you need to start treatment. Treatment options include the following:
- Hemodialysis - requires a machine to filter your blood outside your body
- Peritoneal dialysis - uses the lining of your belly to filter your blood inside the body
- Kidney transplantation - a new, donor kidney is placed in your body
Aurora BayCare urologists care for patients with chronic kidney disease. Our goals are to slow the progression of the disease and to streamline the transition to dialysis or transplantation.

Early detection leads to greater treatment success for kidney, bladder, and urinary disorders. Regular checkups are often key to early diagnosis. Don’t wait to seek medical attention if you have symptoms of prostate cancer or other urological conditions.
