Expert breast cancer diagnosis
Early detection and diagnosis matter when treating breast cancer.
We offer a High Risk Breast Cancer Program that will assess each individual’s risk score and discuss options. If you have a family history of breast cancer, please contact us to learn more. Most women with an average risk of breast cancer should begin annual screening mammograms at age 40. We offer the following types of mammogram screening tests:
- 3D mammogram: This test uses a series of images to create a clearer, more detailed view.
- Audiovisual mammogram: This mammogram incorporates sight and sound to help you relax for improved image quality. We were the first hospital in Wisconsin to offer this service.
- Whole breast ultrasound: This mammogram is designed for women with dense breasts or personal risk factors.
We also use advanced breast imaging techniques that help our breast cancer specialists pinpoint the exact cancer location. These include:
- Stereotactic breast biopsy: This technique uses low-dose X-rays to locate the tumor. A specialist then obtains a tissue sample for examination under a microscope.
- Ultrasound-guided breast biopsy: An ultrasound scanner will be used to accurately guide a needle to the biopsy site. The biopsy sample will then be sent for testing.
- MRI-guided breast biopsy: An MRI scanner will be used to accurately guide a needle to the biopsy site. The sample will then be sent for testing.
- Breast MRI: This test combines radio waves and strong magnets to create a detailed picture of the breast.
- PET/CT scan: This combined technique uses positron emission tomography (PET) and a CT scan to find cancer cells before other imaging techniques do. These scans use a small amount of radioactive material and a special camera to spot changes at the cell level.
Multidisciplinary Cancer Clinic
During a one-day visit to our Multidisciplinary Cancer Clinic, multiple breast cancer specialists will evaluate you and make a treatment plan. These specialists include medical oncology, radiation oncology, genetic counseling, plastic surgery, oncologic surgery and social work.
With our Multidisciplinary Cancer Clinic, there’s no need to schedule multiple appointments on different days or put off starting treatment. Your nurse navigator is with you during your visit, ensuring you have all the information and resources you need.
Advanced breast cancer treatment options
We base our leading-edge breast cancer treatments on the latest clinical cancer research. These include advanced radiation therapy techniques such as accelerated whole breast radiotherapy. This technique, also know as hypofractionated radiotherapy, delivers a higher dose of radiation over a shorter number of total days.
Your care team will also let you know about available clinical trials. These are research studies that give you access to the latest breast cancer treatments before the public can access them.
Complementary medicine services
Our comprehensive breast cancer care includes a range of wellness therapies known as complementary medicine. These services help reduce stress and promote healing during and after breast cancer treatment.
