WARM program

Bringing physicians to rural communities

The Wisconsin Academy of Rural Medicine (WARM) is a program of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health created to address the current shortage of rural physicians in the state and enhance health care in rural communities

WARM students spend their first two years at the University of Wisconsin – Madison completing the in-class curriculum. Students relocate during years three and four and complete their clinical training in a regional and rural learning community. A rural learning environment allows students to begin to address the health care needs of rural citizens and benefit from small learning groups.

WARM students spend their first 18 months at the University of Wisconsin – Madison completing their in-class basic science curriculum. These students then relocate to one of the three WARM regional medical centers in the state, Aurora BayCare Medical Center being one of these, to complete their clinical training.

A more rural learning environment allows students to begin to address the health care needs of rural citizens and benefit from more personalized medical training.
