Occupational Therapy Hand and Upper Extremity Rehabilitation Fellowship
The fellowship program at Aurora BayCare Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine in Green Bay, Wisconsin, is a 12-month post-professional occupational therapy fellowship program focused on developing advanced practitioners in the focus area of occupational and physical rehabilitation (e.g., upper extremity and hand musculoskeletal injuries and work rehabilitation). The fellow will complete a comprehensive curriculum designed to advance their knowledge, skill, and clinical reasoning within the focus area of hand and upper extremity therapy along with work rehabilitation.
Fellowship components include:
- Independent patient care in an outpatient occupational therapy clinic
- One-on-one clinical mentoring
- In-person and online academic coursework designed to provide the basis for advanced clinical practice
- Physician rounding and observation
Accreditation
The Aurora BayCare Occupational Therapy Hand and Upper Extremity Rehabilitation Fellowship has been awarded candidacy status and is seeking initial accreditation.
Program Goals
Goal 1: Provide a comprehensive clinical and academic curriculum focused on developing a strong knowledge base and clinical reasoning skills in upper extremity/hand orthopedics and work rehabilitation occupational therapy
Goal 2: Develop skilled advanced practitioners in the upper extremity/hand orthopedic and work rehabilitation occupational therapy fields, who implement evidence-based practice diagnostic tests, treatment interventions, and management strategies to achieve improved patient reported outcomes.
Goal 3: Foster professional communication and interdisciplinary collaboration to improve the quality of patient care delivered by the Fellow and enhance functional outcomes for the patient.
Goal 4: Promote understanding of and integrate the AOTA code of ethics into the curriculum to ensure professional workplace behaviors are achieved through the delivery of skilled orthopedic and work rehabilitation occupational therapy services.
Goal 5: Participate in strategic growth initiatives and continuous improvement in quality orthopedic and work rehabilitation occupational therapy services through the development of strong mentors and educators.
Program Requirements
The program has designated distinct program eligibility requirements to begin the fellowship program:
- Graduated or will graduate from an ACOTE occupational therapy program prior to the fellowship start date.
- Valid licensure or anticipated to meet eligibility requirements for licensure as an occupational therapist in the State of Wisconsin.
- May include but not limited to a criminal background check, pre-employment physical examination and drug screening, and vaccination and immunization policies.
- Comply with Advocate Health’s employment requirements for occupational therapists
- No specific years of experience required for fellowship application.
