Our fertility treatments and services
After comprehensive fertility testing, our specialists work with you to create the most effective treatment plan. We’ll carefully explain the details of each fertility treatment or service as we help you decide what’s best for you.
Fertility medication
We usually begin a woman’s fertility treatment with medications. First, we do an ultrasound to find out if your ovaries are producing and releasing eggs.
If your egg count is low, we may recommend clomiphene (Clomid® or Serophene®) or letrozole (Femara®). These oral fertility medications lower estrogen levels and increase the number of eggs your ovaries produce.
Intrauterine insemination (IUI)
Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a procedure that helps a man’s sperm get to a women’s uterus to fertilize an egg. IUI is less expensive and less invasive than IVF, so many couples and individuals try IUI before IVF.
We may recommend IUI for:
- Couples or individuals using donor sperm
- Infertility caused by slow-swimming sperm or erectile dysfunction (inability to get or keep an erection)
- Infertility caused by gynecological conditions such as a narrowed cervix (part of the uterus that connects to the vagina)
- Unexplained infertility
IUI involves several steps:
- Ovulation induction: The woman receives injections of fertility medication to help stimulate egg production. Ovulation induction usually takes about 2 weeks.
- Semen sample: After taking a semen sample, we wash the semen in our on-site laboratory. We separate the sperm and prepare them for IUI.
- Insemination: We perform IUI during ovulation. Using a vaginal catheter (thin, flexible tube), we transfer the sperm directly to the woman’s uterus where it can fertilize an egg.
In vitro fertilization (IVF)
IVF is the process of fertilizing an egg with sperm in a laboratory. At Aurora BayCare, our highly trained fertility specialists offer the latest IVF techniques and a state-of-the-art fertility lab. Learn more about IVF.
Fertility preservation
You may need or want to wait to have children for a variety of reasons. Fertility preservation makes it possible to start a family according to your timeline. We offer:
- Sperm banking: We can freeze your sperm for use in future IUI or IVF cycles. Sperm banking might be the right choice for men with low sperm count or who may become infertile due to an illness or medical treatments.
- Egg freezing: Women who want to preserve fertility before getting older or have been diagnosed with cancer may consider egg freezing (cryopreservation). We harvest and cryopreserve eggs, storing them safely until you’re ready for IVF.
- Embryo freezing: During IVF, we fertilize multiple eggs so that we can choose the embryo with the best chance of implanting in the uterus. We can freeze the additional embryos for use in future IVF cycles, which means you won’t need additional procedures to harvest eggs.
Donor-assisted reproduction and surrogacy
We offer a variety of services for anyone who wants to become a parent. Our fertility clinic offers donor-assisted reproduction and surrogacy services. We carefully screen and test all donors and surrogates to help you have the best possible experience.
Minimally invasive surgery
Some gynecological or urological conditions cause infertility. We offer a range of minimally invasive gynecological surgeries and male reproduction services for:
- Azoospermia, or an absence of sperm in the semen, which may require sperm retrieval
- Endometriosis, or growths of uterine tissue outside the uterus
- Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), or cysts on the ovaries
- Uterine fibroids, or growths of tissue inside the uterus
- Varicocele, or enlarged veins in the scrotum
- Vasectomy reversal, or reattaching tubes that carry semen to the penis
