Our fertility testing services

If you’ve been trying to start a family for a year or more without success, it may be time for fertility testing. Our experts do a physical exam and carefully review your medical history and overall health.

We may recommend a combination of male and female fertility tests, including:

  • Genetic test: A family history of certain health conditions, such as cystic fibrosis, can contribute to infertility. Blood tests can screen for inherited conditions. Genetic counselors can help you evaluate the risk of passing these conditions on to your baby.
  • Hormone test: Reproductive hormone imbalances in men or women can make it difficult to conceive. We do blood tests to check testosterone, progesterone and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels. These tests can also tell us if a woman is still producing eggs and how many eggs she may have left.
  • Imaging: A pelvic ultrasound or a hysterosalpingogram (HSG), which is a type of X-ray, can help us examine your uterus and fallopian tubes. We look for problems such as polyps or fibroids in the uterus.
  • Semen analysis: The most common male fertility test is a semen analysis. We evaluate a semen sample to make sure it contains sperm. We also check the quality, shape and motility (ability to swim) of the sperm.

Conditions we treat

Fertility testing can help us uncover some of the most common causes of infertility, including:

  • Diminished ovarian reserve, or low egg count
  • Endometriosis, or growths of uterine tissue outside the uterus
  • Oligospermia, or low sperm count
  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), or cysts on the ovaries
  • Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
  • Uterine fibroids, or growths of tissue inside the uterus
  • Varicocele, or enlarged veins in the scrotum
