Neurology and Neurosurgery: Why Choose Aurora BayCare Medical Center?
People throughout Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula trust Aurora BayCare to deliver comprehensive care for complex neurological disorders. Highlights of our award-winning program include:
- 24/7/365 care: We have neurologists and neurosurgeons available around-the-clock to care for people with strokes, brain injuries and other neurological conditions. Continuous coverage, without interruption, at our Level II trauma center ensures that you’ll receive immediate care when you need it the most.
- Experienced team: Many of the board-certified specialists on our team have additional fellowship training. This education means that they have extensive experience in specialty areas such as neuropsychology, epilepsy and neurointervention (minimally invasive procedures). You’re in the care of highly skilled experts who are the most experienced in the region and are leaders in their fields.
- National recognition for stroke and spine care: We were the first program in the region to receive certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center. This designation means that we meet and exceed national standards for the fastest and highest level of emergency stroke care.
- Care coordination: Inpatient and outpatient providers work together to ensure that you get timely, complete care. From surgery to neurorehabilitation, we seamlessly coordinate your treatments at every stage. Experts including neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists (cancer specialists) and pain management physicians meet regularly to adjust your care plan as needed.
- Innovative treatments: Aurora BayCare was the first hospital in northeast Wisconsin to offer the Solitaire™ clot-removal device for stroke. We were also the first in the state to use the innovative PulseRider™ stent and the Flow Redirection Endoluminal Device (FRED) for hard-to-treat brain aneurysms. Our commitment to state-of-the-art technology ensures that you always receive the most innovative treatments.
- Clinical leaders: We are consistently at the forefront of advances in neurological care. Our experts participate in ongoing neuroscience research and clinical trials for stroke, migraine headaches and multiple sclerosis. If eligible, you have access to the latest treatments that may not be available elsewhere.

Our Featured Treatments and Services
With more treatment options, you have more choices when it comes to neurological care. Our specialists customize your treatment plan to meet your unique and changing needs.
Expert diagnostic services
An accurate, timely diagnosis is the first step toward effective treatment. We offer the latest diagnostic techniques and a highly skilled team of neuroradiologists for brain and spine imaging exams. Our technology includes 3D brain mapping and 3T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We also have a highly specialized electromyography lab, which allows us to evaluate nerve and muscle function.
To better understand your risk level for various conditions, we recommend completing our stroke quiz or back and neck pain quiz, then scheduling an appointment with our team.
Headache clinic
We offer the region’s only dedicated headache clinic. This multidisciplinary program allows you to meet with a range of specialists under one roof. You receive a comprehensive evaluation and headache treatment plan from a fellowship-trained neurologist. Your care team may also include a physical therapist, chiropractor, pain management specialist, nutritionist and neuropsychologist.
Concussion management program
Our neurologists keep appointment times reserved exclusively for people dealing with concussions, which means you can often get a same-day visit. We work closely with other teams in the Aurora BayCare family, including physical therapy and sports medicine, to ensure you receive a thorough, timely concussion evaluation and treatment.
Neuro-oncology care
Neurosurgeons collaborate with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists and radiologists to coordinate your care for malignant (cancerous) brain tumors. Your multidisciplinary neuro-oncology team meets regularly to evaluate your condition and update your treatment plan to meet your changing needs.
We offer advanced surgeries for complex tumors, such as glioblastomas, that may make other therapies, such as radiation or chemotherapy, more effective at improving symptoms. Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), a form of radiation therapy, allows us to deliver extremely precise doses of radiation to the brain. We may use the CyberKnife® or Gamma Knife® technology for SRS.
Neurointervention
We were the first hospital in the region with an interventional neurologist. We always have experts on hand to perform the most complex neuroendovascular procedures, which use minimally invasive techniques to fix problems inside blood vessels. Our fellowship trained neurointervention team treat stroke, aneurysms and other blood vessel disorders in the brain and spine without the need for major open surgery.
Brain and spine surgery
Our neurosurgeons excel in leading-edge brain and spine surgeries, including minimally invasive procedures. We offer:
- Brain tumor surgery guided by advanced imaging technology that uses Gleolan®, a special dye that highlights tumors for more accurate and complete removal
- Laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) for brain tumors and epilepsy
- Minimally invasive spine surgery, including spinal fusion and discectomy
- Surgery for deep brain stimulation to treat Parkinson’s disease
