Cancer treatments and therapies

We lead clinical trials and participate in cancer research to develop innovative cancer treatments, so you have choices. Our experts work with you to create a treatment plan that meets your needs. We offer:

Medical oncology treatments

Our medical oncologists use a range of specialized drugs to treat cancer. These include:

  • Chemotherapy: Medications that kill cancer cells throughout the body. Learn more about chemotherapy.
  • Immunotherapy: Drugs that tell your body’s immune system to fight cancer. We offer Provenge® immunotherapy to treat advanced prostate cancer.
  • Hormone therapy: Medications that inhibit or block natural hormones in the body to prevent certain cancers from using them to grow. These drugs are also known as anti-hormone therapy.

Radiation therapy

Radiation oncologists are specialists who use high-energy radiation beams to kill cancer cells. These advanced techniques target and remove cancerous tissue with precision and little-to-no pain. We offer these radiation oncology therapies:

  • External radiation therapy: We use the Varian TrueBeam® radiotherapy system to provide precise and fast radiation therapy treatments. In external radiation therapy, specialists target radiation beams from the machine at the tumor’s location in the body.
  • Internal radiation therapy: Our experts deliver low- or high-dose radiation directly to the cancer site during surgery. They place radioactive implants (sometimes called seeds or pellets) near the tumor to destroy cancer cells from inside the body.

Surgical oncology treatments

Surgical oncologists use both traditional and minimally invasive surgical procedures to remove cancer from the body. These techniques include:

  • Open surgery: Surgeons make small incisions to open the skin and remove tumors and surrounding tissue that shows signs of cancer.
  • Minimally invasive surgery: Specialists insert a thin tube with an attached camera (laparoscope) through tiny incisions to remove tumors with specialized tools. Typically, you’ll heal faster and have less pain with minimally invasive surgery.
  • Robotic surgery: Surgeons use computers to help them make more precise movements than their own hands can make. Robotic surgery removes cancer while preserving healthy tissue.

Tumor treating fields (TTF) therapy

We use a leading-edge technology called tumor treating fields (TTF) therapy, known as Novocure® and Optune®, to treat neurologic cancer. Specialists attach small battery-powered transducers to the scalp using adhesive material to deliver mild electrical currents. This treatment varies electrical fields within solid tumors, preventing cancer cells from dividing and slowing tumor growth without harming healthy cells.

Coordinated Expert Treatment

Our cancer treatment experts meet weekly in cancer conferences known as tumor boards. Here, our specialists share new cancer treatment options to ensure that you get the best, most advanced cancer treatment.
