Laparoscopic gynecologic surgery
Laparoscopic surgery involves one or more tiny incisions. Your surgeon inserts a tube containing a tiny camera and surgical tools into the incision. While viewing the procedure on a video monitor, the surgeon can remove tumors or growths and repair damaged tissue.
We offer the following laparoscopic procedures:
- Endometriosis resection (removal of abnormal endometrial tissue)
- Hysterectomy (removal of the uterus)
- Myomectomy (removal of uterine fibroids)
- Oophorectomy (removal of the ovaries)
- Sacrocolpopexy (repair or uterine or vaginal prolapse)
- Salpingectomy (removal of a fallopian tube)
Robotic gynecological surgery
We may perform certain laparoscopic procedures with the assistance of a robot. Robotic technology offers excellent precision and accuracy for complex procedures while reducing damage to nearby tissues.
Your surgeon controls a robotic “arm,” which can move in ways that a human hand and wrist can’t. The entire surgery is visible on a 3D monitor, allowing your surgeon to see the procedure in far more detail than would be possible with a traditional procedure.
Aurora BayCare uses the innovative da Vinci® surgical system to perform robotic procedures. We were among the first in the region to use this technology for gynecological conditions and have performed more than 2,000 surgeries to date.
Single-site robotic hysterectomy
A single-site robotic hysterectomy only requires one small incision near your belly button. A standard robotic hysterectomy involves 4 to 5 incisions in the abdomen. Women who are candidates for the single-site surgery see virtually no scarring after the procedure.
Conditions we treat
We may recommend robotic or laparoscopic surgery for the following conditions:
- Abnormal menstrual bleeding
- Endometriosis (growth of uterine tissue outside the uterus)
- Endometrial polyps (growths inside the uterus)
- Gynecologic cancer, such as ovarian cancer
- Infertility
- Pelvic floor dysfunction and incontinence
- Uterine fibroids (noncancerous growths)
- Uterine or vaginal prolapse (weakened tissue that drops into the vagina)
