Benefits of water therapy
The natural buoyancy of water creates an almost weightless environment for exercise. Water therapy reduces stress on your joints and provides additional support for your body. You can do more exercise and strength training with less pain. Additional benefits of water therapy include:
- Improved mobility: Water buoyancy allows you to exercise safely and more comfortably. You can improve your balance, gait and neuromuscular coordination.
- Increased strength: The water’s surface tension creates gentle resistance, helping you gradually strengthen weak muscles. You can regain stability after surgery or a sports injury.
- Reduced inflammation: Hydrostatic pressure (pressure that water exerts on your body) helps reduce swelling, fluid buildup and joint pain. Aquatic therapy is ideal for chronic pain and arthritis.
