Shoulder surgery
When shoulder pain persists after nonoperative orthopedics treatments, our experts evaluate your injury to determine if surgery is right for you. We offer:
Minimally invasive shoulder surgery
We use arthroscopic techniques to perform many shoulder surgeries. Arthroscopy allows surgeons to visualize, diagnose and repair damaged bone and tissue using miniature surgical instruments.
Surgeons insert a thin instrument with a small camera attached (arthroscope) through a tiny incision to see the shoulder. Then, they insert tiny surgical instruments through additional small incisions to perform surgery.
Shoulder replacement
Surgeons on our orthopedics team complete 25 times more of these surgeries than the national average. You can trust the demonstrated experience of our surgical team when you need shoulder replacement surgery. This advanced technique helps people with severe shoulder damage regain appropriate pain-free function.
Bankart repair
Specialists repair tears in the labrum, the cartilage ring around the shoulder socket, using arthroscopy. They remove damaged tissue and bone spurs before reattaching the ligament to the bone.
Capsular shift
Sometimes, injury or overuse causes tissue in the shoulder capsule, a fluid-filled sac that encloses the joint, to stretch and shift. Our surgeons use arthroscopy to tighten this tissue and stabilize the shoulder.
Latarjet procedure
When bone wears away at the shoulder socket’s front, we graft healthy bone from elsewhere in the shoulder. We then replace damaged bone in the socket with the healthy bone.
Rotator cuff repair
We repair tears to the rotator cuff, the muscle and tendons surrounding the shoulder, with arthroscopic surgery. We can repair many rotator cuff tears with arthroscopy, but you might need open surgery if you have a more severe injury.
Shoulder impingement surgery
Surgeons use arthroscopy to repair tissue damage caused by shoulder impingement. Impingement is when inflamed tissue prevents the shoulder joint from moving properly.
AC joint reconstruction
If you have pain in your acromioclavicular (AC) joint (where the scapula and clavicle meet), we begin with nonsurgical treatments. These treatments include icing or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen.
If you still have pain after about six months, our surgeons can treat you with arthroscopy.
Not all AC joint reconstructions are arthroscopic. Depending on the extent of the damage, you may need open surgery.
Biceps tendon repair
Orthopedic surgeons often repair the biceps tendon during larger shoulder surgeries such as rotator cuff repair. Doctors reattach the tendon to the humerus, or ball portion of the shoulder joint.
Shoulder fracture repair
When fractures are severe or bones shift, doctors may repair these bone breaks with surgery. Our specialists will evaluate your injury to see if surgery is the right choice for you.
