Regenerative medicine treatments and services
Regenerative medicine is a treatment that helps your body heal itself by replacing cells. These new cells help heal injured tissue, including tendons (tissue that attaches muscle to bone) and ligaments (tissue that connects bones).
Our physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist has extra education in regenerative medicine. They have passed a rigorous professional examination in the field, certifying their expertise. We offer:
Bone marrow aspirate concentrate
A stem cell is a type of cell that can renew itself and help repair other cells in the body. Stem cells live in your bone marrow.
A doctor draws bone marrow from your pelvis to harvest stem cells. This process, from start to finish, takes about two hours.
Once doctors collect the bone marrow, we remove a substance called bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC). Our specialist injects the BMAC using musculoskeletal ultrasound guidance. Ultrasound helps them see the precise location of damaged tissue.
When injected, this substance helps decrease inflammation and stimulate new cell growth.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP)
Our expert draws some of your blood and spins it in a machine called a centrifuge to collect platelets. Platelets are cell fragments in your blood and bone marrow that help your body heal wounds and stop bleeding.
We then use these platelets to create PRP, a protein-rich substance that encourages cell division. We use musculoskeletal ultrasound to identify the precise location. Then, we inject this substance into the injured area to promote healing.
Conditions we treat
Regenerative medicine is ideal for treating orthopedic conditions such as arthritis, tendinitis and joint injuries. We treat:
- Achilles tendon injuries in the foot and ankle
- Muscle strains
- Plantar fasciitis in the foot and ankle
- Rotator cuff tears in the shoulder
- Tennis elbow
Our team works with you to determine if you are a candidate for treatment with orthobiologics. We encourage you to check with your insurance plan provider to see if your plan covers these therapies.
What to expect after treatment
About two weeks after your PRP injection or BMAC treatment, you begin an orthopedic rehabilitation program. Our therapy and rehabilitation team identifies specific exercises to rebuild strength and promote healing.
