Hand Surgery
Each fingerprint is unique, as is the hand that holds it
Our hand surgeons care for disorders of the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. We treat patients of all ages, including children.
Advances in Hand Surgery
Thanks to surgical advancements, today's hand surgeons have more tools than ever before to restore hand function and appearance, even in severe injuries.
Procedures we offer include:
- Carpal tunnel release
- Closed reduction, screw fixation: Realigns fractured bones and immobilizes the area using internal fixtures like wires and screws
- Cyst removal
- Dupuytren's contracture open release, needle release and Xiaflex® enzymatic treatment
- Fasciotomy (a limb-saving procedure to treat acute compartment syndrome, a condition that causes severe pain and muscle weakness)
- Joint replacement (removes damaged joints and replaces them with artificial prostheses)
- Nerve repair (mends damaged nerves; can include reattachment and nerve grafts when necessary)
- Steroid injections
- Tendon repair (fixes injured tendons and surrounding structures)
- Tendinitis release
- Total wrist replacement
- Treatment for sprains, strains and injuries
- Trigger finger release
The scope of your surgery will vary according to the diagnosis. For example, trigger finger surgery is performed as an outpatient under local anesthesia. But in some cases, such as severe arthritis, your hand surgeon may recommend a more complex procedure such as joint reconstruction or joint fusion.
With any treatment recommendation, our goal is to minimize pain and restore function. Our hand surgeons and therapy staff will create an individualized program to help you regain strength and maximize range of motion. We'll also help you seek preventative measures to decrease the chance of re-injury.
Your doctor will discuss the details of any proposed operation, how the procedure will be done, what recovery will be like and any post-surgery restrictions. To ensure the best outcome, surgery is often followed by splinting and hand therapy.
