Drs Peter Johnson and Cynthia Geocaris have milestone robotic surgeries

Green Bay, Wis. - Dr. Peter Johnson, gynecological oncologist at Aurora BayCare Medical Center, recently performed his 2,000th robotic surgery. Dr. Cynthia Geocaris, general and vascular surgeon at Aurora BayCare, also performed her milestone 1,000th robotic surgery. Both Drs. Peter Johnson and Cynthia Geocaris have been instrumental in growing the robotics surgery program at Aurora BayCare.

The entire robotics team at Aurora BayCare has played a pivotal role in making these milestones possible. These milestone achievements are a demonstration of the usefulness of cutting-edge technology to elevate patient care and outcomes. The robotics program started at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay in 2015.

Dr. Peter Johnson leads Aurora BayCare's team of women's cancer specialists and is assisted by our OB/GYN's on many robotic surgery cases. The robot, which is designed to assist physicians in numerous types of procedures including Dr. Johnson's specialties: hysterectomies, cyst removals, endometrial hyperplasia, and removing ovarian, cervical, uterine, and vulvar benign and/or cancerous masses.

Dr. Cynthia Geocaris leads Aurora BayCare's designated mentor site for robotic surgery, which is a program that is designed to teach other surgeons the technique for most complex robotic hernia cases. Less than 2% of all active surgeons in the U.S. qualify to lead these observation sites. Her brother, Mike Geocaris, RN, BSN, assists on all her cases and provides training to assistants as well.

Using a robot allows the surgeon to work through much smaller incisions and allows for a more precise technique. This technology makes surgery for Aurora BayCare patients safer and may lead to superior outcomes.
