Green Bay, WI - Local EMS professionals from Northeast Wisconsin and surrounding communities attended our EMS Huddle on Tuesday, May 22 to further their education. In addition, recipients of tuition reimbursements provided by Aurora BayCare Medical Center and BayCare Clinic Foundation, in collaboration with Dr. Christopher Sorrells, an emergency medicine physician at Aurora BayCare were honored at the gathering.
The $500 tuition reimbursements were awarded to five students enrolled in the emergency medical services (EMS) program at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College: Brenda Russell, Emanuel Hernandez, Joshua Van Lanen, Melanie Samonds, and Shoshoni Elbe (not pictured). The awards are based on financial need and each student's overall application. A presentation was held for the awards during the EMS Huddle
The EMS department at NWTC is a certified training center for emergency medical technician (EMT) and paramedic education.
The evening also included an educational discussion and presentation which was led by Dr. Aurora Lybeck, Assistant Out of Hospital Medical Director for Aurora Regional EMS in Southeast Wisconsin. Lybeck discussed two topics: "Rural Trauma" and "The ABCs of the Glasgow Coma Scale". Lybeck is also dual board certified in Emergency Medicine as well as EMS.
Twice a year Aurora BayCare hosts EMS Huddles which are intended to provide continuing education to the EMS community. Topics covered include recent emergency medicine news and procedures, and skills. Certificates are handed out to participants at this event for attendance and continuing education.
