BayCare Medical Center conducted its fifth annual cancer survivor event on
Tuesday, June 26, 2007. The theme of this year's event was "Inspired by 5" which
described the five inspiring years Aurora BayCare Medical Center, the Vince
Lombardi Cancer Clinic, Aurora Health Care and BayCare Clinic have shared with
our patients. More than 1800 people, 700 of whom were cancer survivors, came to
celebrate life in the company of their family and friends.
Throughout the evening, we reflected on how we have been inspired by five years
of cancer survivor stories, better ways, innovations, advancements and the
survivors. During the program, we spoke about five different words that we feel
are the common factor in all of our cancer patients: Courage, Perseverance,
Grace, Strength and Optimism. Not only are these qualities of the cancer
patient, but the family and friends that surround them. Through these words, we
described how they have been so incredibly inspiring to all of us.
